Today I was assigned a task. We were to go about the room looking for interesting items to capture at different angles in a photo. My first object was a feather.

Feather- Even though this was a decorative feather, it made me think of how many different animals or birds it could have come from. There are so many different types of birds all over the world and even just here in   Wisconsin! Although you might not find this feather from a bird in WI., you might find it in a warmer, tropical climate, like Haiti or the Virgin Islands. In the amazon jungle there are a huge variety of birds, so if you are looking for an authentic green feather, you might have to check there instead!

Tiki - Hawaii. Right when I look at the Tiki I think of Hawaii. The pattern of flowers on the lamp looks like something you might see there. I did some research and the Tiki Lantern originated from the Polynesian culture. They were used in religious ceremonies to pay respect to gods. The Tiki torches became popular in the U.S. when Americans  became interested in Islander and Polynesian tradition.

Stuffed Monkey- The stuffed monkey lead me to do some Google searching. Stuffed animals and dolls originated from the Native Americans. Unlike they are made today, people hand crafted these stuffed toys with almost any material scraps they could find. Some examples of what these toys would have been made out of a long time ago would be things like straw, cloth, clay, etc.

Fall DWA

Today a friend of mine started kindergarten, and I started Middle School. I can still remember that one of a kind feeling of waiting for the bus for the very first time. I can only imagine the excitement and anticipation that went into preparing for her very first day of school. Even now, seven years experienced, I still get mixed emotions about starting a new school year. I tend to feel eager, but also timid, especially this year. This was a special first day back because everything has changed. Going from Elementary to Middle School is a giant step, especially because flip flopping classes every hour may take a little getting used to. Although it can be a little hectic running from one class to the next, it’s a much needed change from the usual.
The colorful artwork, “Great Job” projects, the tiny tables and chairs to go with, I can still picture my kindergarten room. As I grow and change, so do my responsibilities. It’s awesome to be able to go back to school everyday and learn something new, yet it’s hard not to yearn for the days when everything was all about having fun. To this day, I find it amazing how far I’ve come since that very first day back in kindergarten. Although I’m really looking forward to growing and maturing as a person through school, there’s always those days where you would give anything just to be a little kid again.
